Electrolysis and Thermolysis
Permanent hair removal is a topic very close to every woman's heart. Electrolysis hair removal, as a means of permanently removing unwanted hair is well known amongst the various methods of enhancing beauty. In this process, a slanted needle is pricked till it reaches the root of the hair. The thickness of the hair decides the depth of the needle to be pricked. Then the roots of the hair are burnt and weakened by using electric currents. Repeated sittings stops their growth.
The process:-
There are three methods in electrolysis to burn the hair follicle. The main difference in the methods revolve around the type of electrical current that is used:-
- Electrolysis
This method uses galvanic electricity or direct current (DC) to create a chemical action in the follicle.
- Thermolysis
This method, also known as radio wave or short-wave, uses alternating current (AC) to kill hair growth cells with heat. The high frequency current delivered agitates the follicle tissue and produces heat that is high enough in temperature to effectively destroy the active area receiving the treatment.
- Blend
This method of hair removal combines both of the electrical currents mentioned above. When alternating current (thermolysis) is added to direct current (galvanic)- either simultaneously or sequentially - it quickly raises the heat thereby greatly accelerating its normally sluggish reaction speed.
It must be remembered that electrolysis hair removal should be done by an experienced and professional beautician only.
Electrolysis or thermolysis should not be used:
- To remove hair from eyelashes, inner side of nose and ear
- To remove hair from pimples or moles.
- If you are being treated for hormone deficiency, avoid electrolysis
- Diabetic patients and pregnant women should stay away as it might cause infections
Some common side effects of electrolysis:-
- Pain, redness, or swelling.
- Scabs may appear. These dots are normal part of the healing process and will not leave any permanent damage, provided you do not pick at them or scratch them resulting in infection or scarring.
- It is also possible for dark skinned people to get dark or light spots around the treated areas that may or may not be permanent.
- Electrolysis may be painful for some individuals depending on the roughness and thickness of the hair being removed, the sensitivity of the area, and an individual's tolerance for pain. A topical pain reliever may reduce the pain.
Some important facts:-
- Electrolysis is a permanent hair removal process that requires time, energy and money.
- The number of treatments required and the duration of each sitting depends on a number of factors such as heredity, the hair type, the amount of hair that must be removed and where it is located, skin type, and your health condition.
- Electrolysis hair removal is a safe and a cosmetically acceptable method of removing unwanted hair permanently. It is a useful way of getting rid of small areas of unwanted hair, but for hairy legs and arms it might prove too expensive and time consuming.
